TRADITIONAL: THE CAMERATA INSTRUMENTALE ‘FREIBURG’S KAUFHAUS-SERENADEN’
For over 50 years, the Kaufhaus-Serenaden – a cycle of four concerts a year – have been known and loved from far beyond the city borders of Freiburg. On the occasion of the 850th anniversary of the city in 1970, the delightful courtyard at the Historisches Kaufhaus was made available for concerts. This provided the motivation for the Camerata Instrumentale Freiburg ensemble to start the Kaufhaus-Serenaden under the leadership of Frank Michael. An organisation that originally felt obliged to ‘only’ perform music from the 17th and 18th centuries in an authentic style developed over several decades into a group that now includes all styles from the renaissance to modern eras in its repertoire and offers guests the chance to hear music that is rarely performed – a special treat from the Freiburg music scene, performed in a special atmosphere. With the 258th cycle of concerts in 2021, the popular Serenaden are now moving into their 51st year of events – and are no longer taking place in the small, romantic courtyard but in the considerably larger and acoustically excellent halls within the building.
FOUR CONCERTS A YEAR WITH THE BEST ACOUSTICS
An average of between 80 and 280 music-loving guests attend the concerts given by the five-piece ensemble, which masters all styles from the renaissance to the modern. The Kaisersaal and the Kaminsaal are ideal for the discerning requirements in terms of acoustics and ambience, depending on the repertoire and expected number of guests.
Use of space at the Historisches Kaufhaus:
- Kaisersaal for up to 300 guests in theatre-style seating
